QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup moves to the French Riviera (13.07.2010)
QubicaAMF has announced that the 46th Bowling World Cup will not be held in Zagreb, Croatia, but in Toulon, on the French Riviera, from October 15-24, 2010.
Commenting on the change in venue, President and CEO of QubicaAMF, John Walker, said: "It is very regrettable that the economic climate in Croatia and ownership changes at the host bowling center have made it necessary to move the 2010 Bowling World Cup from Zagreb. We had great support for the event from the Croatian Olympic Committee, the local Bowling Federation and other government agencies and I am confident that the World Cup will be held in Croatia in the near future. It is a wonderful country which is very rich in sporting history and will one day be a tremendous site for the Bowling World Cup. We are also very lucky to have an alternative like Toulon where Michel Beltramone has offered to host this great event and bring it to France for the third time."
The Bowling de Provence center is located at La Garde, a suburb of Toulon. It is part of one of Toulon's major sports complexes, which also boasts an ice rink (skating, ice hockey and curling), billiards, a swimming pool, gymnasiums and fitness centers.
Bowling de Provence has been completely refurbished , inside and out, and will re-open in early September. It is a modern, state of the art facility, fully equipped with QubicaAMF equipment. It has grown down the years, from 6 lanes at the beginning to become a 12, then 16, 20, 24, 28 and with 44 lanes, it is now the biggest bowling center in France.
Toulon lies on the western end of the Cote d'Azur on the Mediterranean, known around the world as the French Riviera. It was settled by the Romans when its claim to fame was production of the purple dye used for imperial robes.
It developed into a harbor for trading ships, then a royal port and it is now the major French naval port on the Mediterranean. Its delightful historic center is a mass of narrow streets, small squares and numerous fountains.

Catalan Skittles is a newcomer in the Russian entertainment industry. But no doubt one day it will be really popular here.

Nowadays there are at least 551 bowling centers in Russia (we say ‘at least’ meaning that we might be unaware of some more centers). The number of the lanes is already over 4200...

What is your new position in KEGEL?
Since 2004, my main role has been supporting the Kegel distribution network throughout Europe. In February this year we have shifted that responsibility to Kegel Master Technician Don Agent. In this time I have also been the liaison for Kegel with the European Ten Pin Federation (ETBF), their highly successful European Bowling Tour (EBT) and with the EBT organizers who accept the Kegel lane maintenance sponsorship. I continue to be the liaison for Kegel for this in addition to performing work and writings for www.kegel.net.

Some people think that the idea of installing entertainments inside the trading centers was imposed to the developers by the entertainment industry. It’s not a secret – the entertainment centers (including bowling centers) pay less rent than the retailers. The analysis of consumer behavior allows to consider that only 9% of the mall’s clients enter the mall solely for shopping. 69% of them come there in order “to buy something and to have some fun”. That’s why the trading centers are willing to integrate the entertainment areas inside them.

The 67 bowling centers have been opened in Russia in 2006. In compare to 2005 (72 bowling centers) it’s a little bit less. But the total number of bowling lanes which started to operate in 2006 is 604, which is more than in 2005 (577 lanes). It reflects the growing tendency to enlargement of the bowling centers – to build the centers with the big number of lanes.
